This series tracks the decay process of an abandoned
homestead and the subsequent reclaiming of the land back to the natural
habitat. Having been raised on a dairy farm when farming was a small family
operation, Dan has experienced the modernization of farming over the past 40
years to that of an industry with the resultant loss of many family farm
operations. As a testimony to the changing times, many a family farm now
stands abandoned and the Pennsylvania landscape is dotted with the old
homesteads in various stages of decay.
While we mourn the loss of a generation's contributions
to our prosperity, we rejoice in the natural habitat resultant of nature's
reclaiming the land. This progressive process provides a variety of habitat
that abounds in wildlife.
The Homestead Series is a memorial to our heritage and a
testimony to our golden future.
This series was created to be versatile. Each set can
be framed together or separately. All four can be hung together on a wall,
or one at a time, exchanging them each season. Matching numbers for the
whole series can be ordered or reserved.

After years of neglect, the old homestead is now in
transition to ruins. Handcrafted and fitted timbers that once were pillars
of strength now collapse with exposure to the elements as decay takes its
toll.
Meanwhile the ecological transition from the cultivated
to the wild is spreading from its earlier foothold, and those first
reclaimants are in transition to maturity. The natural process whereby once
cultivated land returns to its former natural state is a slow but sure
process to which a succession of plants and animals will contribute.
Transition is under way.

The third in the series shows the structures in collapse
from exposure to the elements and the weight of the winter's snow. The
fields have become beds for shrubs and trees to sprout in the transition
back to the forest. This is the "Last Stand" for the remains of civilization
against the relentless reclaiming of nature.

The last in the series captures the dawning of a new age
as trees reclaim the land and a forest ecosystem is born. God in his perfect
wisdom created each species of life with an infinitely complex genetic code
to be a piece of the puzzle making each ecosystem. One can only stand in awe
as we observe the process of nature and see God in his creation. The Bible
states it this way in Romans 1:20; "For since the creation of the world
God's invisible qualities -His eternal power and divine nature - have been
clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are
without excuse."
